Course Description

This Training Programme is fully funded by the eSkills Malta Foundation. The Foundation is a National Coalition made up of various representatives from Government, industry, and education, who can contribute to the increase in digital skills and the development of the IT profession in the Maltese Society.

The objective of this course is to upskill ICT Professionals and Practitioners working in SMEs into applying cybersecurity methods and tools within their business and help secure their IT environment, with a special focus on the latest cyber security threats (such as ransomware and double extortion) as well emerging threats from the misuse of artificial intelligence (including GenAI).

The course incorporates a hands-on element, whereby students will be coached and mentored to implement cybersecurity measures at their place of work.

Dates and Time

Session 1: 19th July (9 am – 10:30 am) – in person
Session 2: 23rd July (9 am – 10:30 am) (45min for Group A and 45min for Group B) – online, instructor-led
Session 3: 6th August (10 am – 11:30 am) (45min for Group A and 45min for Group B) – online, instructor-led

NOTE: A €15 registration fee is applied when enrolling; the registration fee will be refunded at the end of the course, if one has attended all the sessions.

Prerequisites: This programme is reserved to Maltese Residents and for such a reason, to enroll in the course you are asked to confirm your Country of Residence.

Course Structure

The programme will kick-off with an instructor-led session for ICT Professionals and Practitioners who shall be exposed to various cyber scenarios. Subsequently, participants shall go back to their workplace, and implement the cyber strategies that they would have been exposed to during the instructor-led session. Attendees will be coached and mentored through this whole process.

Session 1: Securing the IT Environment through Cybersecurity Methods (1.5 hours) – in person

The aim of this session held in person at the Hub, is for ICT Professionals and Practitioners to attend a highly interactive session involving cyber-related demonstrations. The following topics shall be covered:

  • Defining cyber security and cyber risk
  • Cyber attacks and threat actors
  • Social engineering: the human element
  • Cybersecurity challenges in SMEs
  • Key initiatives for a secure business environment

Session 2: Peer coaching and mentoring on Implementing Cybersecurity Practices (45 minutes) – online, instructor-led

A virtual coaching session, splitting the students into 2 groups of 15 people each, shall be carried out. Where possible, the individuals are grouped in accordance to the industry they are coming from to help in sharing experiences and pain points. The aim of this coaching and mentoring session is for participants to share their experiences, their pain points and the challenges they are facing with implementing cybersecurity practices at their place of work.

Session 3: Peer coaching and mentoring on Implementing Cybersecurity Practices (45 minutes) – online, instructor-led

After the first peer coaching and mentoring session (Session 2), a virtual coaching session shall be carried out for each of the two groups, as the final session in this course. These coaching sessions shall be held virtually. The aim of this coaching and mentoring session is for participants to share their experiences, their pain points and the challenges they are facing with implementing cybersecurity practices at their place of work.

Prerequisites

This programme is reserved to Maltese Residents and for such a reason, to enroll in the course you are asked to confirm your Country of Residence.

No prerequisites are necessary to attend this course. However, this course has been designed for ICT Professionals and Practitioners working in SMEs.
